USURBIL AND CIDER
Usurbil is a town closely linked to cider and an ideal destination for anybody keen to discover the culture of apples and cider. As well as the cider breweries there for those visiting the town for whatever reason (it has the third largest number of cider houses in the Basque Country), the culture of cider spreads into different areas: training, home brewing, leisure and so on. All put together, they make Usurbil an important centre of the culture of cider. Live cider, live Usurbil.
The apple presses, testimony to its history, still survive in several farmhouses. There are currently 7 cider breweries of varying sizes. Moreover, Usurbil is special because many households make their own cider for domestic use, which affects relations, customs and the whole culture of cider, and in short is a different way to experience cider. There’s a song that goes, usurbildarrek daukate sagardoa alkate” (Usurbil people have cider as their mayor). If you come to Usurbil you can discover the heart of the apple.
